SBI's one day token strike

Kolkata, March 13

The employees and officers of State Bank of India in Bengal Circle, covering West Bengal, Sikkim and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, will observe one day's token strike on March 28 in protest of the bank management's plan to shift the foreign department's (now called global market unit) operation from here to Mumbai, according to a press statement issued jointly by the SBI Officers' Association (Bengal Circle) and SBI Staff Association (Bengal Circle). The proposed transfer of jobs is in violation of the provisions of the agreement signed in this regard between the management and the unions in January 2000, the statement adds. There are a total of 801 branches in SBI's Bengal Circle, including 159 in Kolkata metro area, according to SBI sources. - Our Bureau
