Lift irrigation schemes

Kakinada, March 13

The Chairperson of the UPA, Ms Sonia Gandhi, is scheduled to inaugurate two major lift irrigation schemes on Friday, one in East Godavari district and the second in Warangal district, the first being named Pushkara Lift irrigation scheme and the second Devadula scheme. The Pushkara scheme is meant to irrigate 1.86 lakh acres in the uplands of East Godavari district and provide drinking water to 169 villages, taken up at a cost of Rs 608 crore. The Devadula scheme in Warangal district provides water to 77,780 acres in the first phase. On the completion of the second phase, water will be provided to 1.6 lakh acres, according to sources in the Irrigation Department. The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will accompany Ms Sonia Gandhi. - Our Bureau
