Railways Arshya licensed to run box trains
Arshya International, a West Asia-based company, has secured the licence from the Indian Railways for running container trains throughout India, according to informed sources. With this, the number of firms that have secured licences for operating private container trains goes up to 16, add the sources. Of these 16 firms, 11 are actually running services including Central Warehousing Corporation, which does not have any rake of its own but operates rakes belonging to anoth er firm. Together, these 11 firms operate nearly 50 rakes. The largest number of them is 12 rakes, offered by Boxtrans — a company belonging to the JM Baxi Group. About 20 rakes are in operation in the domestic circuit, it is learnt. Jawaharlal Nehru port is the most preferred choice of the private train operators participating in the export-import trade, followed by Mundra port. There are services to Visakhapatnam and Chennai ports also. The firms that have secured licences but yet to start services are Reliance, Pipavav Rail Corporation, Kribhco, Delhi-Assam Roadways and Arshya International.
