No sale in N. Indian tea auction centres

Last week, there were no sales in any of the three major tea auction centres of North India, according to J. Thomas and Company Pvt Ltd, the tea auctioneers. While small volumes of new season teas began to arrive, the leaf intake was still moderate, and the start of the season, it was felt, would be delayed.

INTERNATIONAL

The Mombasa market was irregular. Selected improved BP1s were firm to dearer while the remainder tended irregularly lower. Pakistan, Yemen, West Asia and the UK shippers were active with good inquiries from Egypt, Russia and Kazakhstan buyers. The Colombo market saw good inquiry and price levels for leafy types appreciated with competition forthcoming from the CIS, Japan, the UK and Germany.
