Mr K. Jafar Ali, National Head (Human Resources), West Asia Exports & Imports Pvt Ltd, Chennai addressing students of the DKM College for Women, Vellore, as part of the Business Line Club lecture series. Our Bureau Chennai, March 16 The current business environment in India is going through both exciting and tough times. The changes and the consequent challenges of globalisation have proved that in addition to quality and cost, creativity and innovation would be the key differentiators between organisations. And, it is the people in the organisations who would have to come up with creative ideas and innovative practices, according to Mr K. Jafar Ali, National Head (Human Resources), West Asia Exports & Imports Pvt Ltd, Chennai. He was addressing students of the DKM College for Women, Vellore, as part of the Business Line Club lecture series. He was speaking on ‘Global HR Challenges’. According to him, talent was an important focus area for corporates. Every HR initiative revolved around talent acquisition, development, management and retention. Today, the world was without boundaries and everything was global — be it technology, the markets, competition or HR. In addition to capital productivity and cost leadership, performance management assumed significance for organisational success. Global HR challengesConsequent to the transfer and mobility of talent across the world, HR professionals were expected to deal with several global HR challenges. Some of these challenges related to cross-cultural management, a global rewards strategy, relocation administration and mergers and acquisitions. HR professionals should equip themselves with the requisite skills to manage cultural diversity and to communicate in more than one language and style. HR professionals should have a clear understanding of global business and should do everything possible to align their HR strategy with business. The other qualities of global HR professionals included networking, entrepreneurial skills, familiarity with diverse cultures, strategic thinking and speedy action. A global mindset supported by the ability to work with global teams would go a long way in helping any HR professional to succeed. Also present at the event were Mr D. Maninathan, Secretary, Ms R. Manimekalai, Prinicipal, and G. Rajini, Head, Dept of Management Studies. More Stories on : Human Resources | Events | Tamil Nadu
