Orthodox teas gain at Coimbatore

Coimbatore, March 17

The total volumes offered at the weekly tea auction that took place on Friday at the Tea Trade Association here was almost the same as the earlier week at 4.17 lakh kg with leaf grades accounting for 1.40 lakh kg and the balance 2.77 lakh kg of dust grades. The well made larger orthodox leaf grades were quoting dearer by up to Rs 3 a kg. Only limited quantity of the orthodox dust was on offer and these sold – fair to dearer levels. The medium, plainer and bolder CTC leaf grades met with fair demand. Brokens remained barely steady, while fanning ruled firm to dearer by Re 1. Good liquoring CTC dust was in good demand. HUL operated on medium teas, AVT and Indco remained selective. Best CTC dust grades ranged between Rs 60 and Rs 67, while the orthodox high growns quoting between Rs 68 and Rs 79 a kg. –
