Foodgrains Maize prices rule steady Coimbatore, March 17 Maize price stood marginally lower this week at Rs 7,450 a tonne, as compared to the average price of Rs 7,550 in the previous week. This week's static price is possibly due to the reports on new outbreak of bird flu in West Bengal. The sobriety in prices were in evident at almost all delivery centres across the country, according to the US Grains Council's India report. Bajra prices too were down by about three per cent last week at Rs 6,748 per tonne at the market yard. The prices are lower than last year by about three per cent. Against maize, the prices are lower by 9.4 per cent. The availability is good in northern part of the country, making it possible for the egg producers using the commodity in rations to reduce cost of feed thereby bring down the cost of production of eggs, the report added. Prices of corn on Chicago board of trade were up for this week with the rate for March, May and July 2008 deliveries quoted at $214.71, $220 and $224.87 respectively per tonne. - Our Bureau More Stories on : Foodgrains | Commodity Markets
