Kent RO Systems setting up third manufacturing facility

To strengthen marketing ties; enhance presence in new format stores

New Delhi, March 19 Buoyed by the growth in the water purifying devices category, Kent RO Systems, a pioneer in mineral RO technology, is setting up its third manufacturing facility at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh with an initial investment of Rs 15 crore.

The new facility will have a capacity to manufacture two lakh units annually and will be operational in 14 months, Mr Mahesh Gupta, Chairman, Kent RO Systems, told Business Line.

The company has two existing facilities at Roorkee in Uttaranchal. Its capacity is around 60,000 units a year.

Kent RO Systems, which has Bollywood actor Hemamalini and her daughter Esha and Aahna as its brand ambassadors, said it has also earmarked Rs 15 crore towards marketing and advertisements. Kent RO will continue its association with the actors for another two years.

The company hopes to achieve a turnover of Rs 150 crore by the end of this fiscal. The Rs 1,000-crore Indian water purifying industry is growing at 20 per cent annually and Kent intends to capture a 25 per cent share of this industry by 2010, Mr Gupta added.

To further strengthen its marketing ties, the company has done strategic marketing tie up with Indian Oil and Big Bazaar to make the product range available to the consumers.

“We are also stepping up our presence in all the new formats stores across the country. The distribution channels are also being scaled up. The tie-up with IOC will help to market the purifiers at select outlets,” he added.

On the challenges, Mr Gupta said it is to build the brand and raise consumer awareness to clean water technology.

On exports front, he said the company’s revenue is currently generated from domestic market and exports account for only a miniscule share.

“Our products are currently exported to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya and Sri Lanka though we are looking to increase our international focus,” he said.
