Mohan Padmanabhan

A new debate emerging in Bengal today revolves around the proposed move to put declared industrial land to non-industrial purposes, like the more lucrative real estate development. The poster put up by CITU on BT Road in front of a factory says it all in Bengali "We want only industry in industrial land". Manufacturing industries located in the area for long years allege that their expansion plans (which would yield jobs for the unemployed) may be threatened if prime industrial land is allowed for real estate development by companies which get rehabilitated via the BIFR route. The residents of the area and also the municipality are said to be opposed to the move.
