Wet April for Tamil Nadu

Vinson Kurian

Thiruvananthapuram, March 21 Evolving weather during April-May-June would be any different for Tamil Nadu, according to latest outlook by the International Research Centre (IRI) for Climate Prediction at the University of Columbia.

Alongside, these rains could become entrenched over the Konkan-Mumbai belt, west Maharashtra and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, according to the IRI estimates. The centre retained its outlook for an above-normal monsoon for India during the four months from June.

May-June-July (the onset phase) could see excess monsoon rains over peninsular India and west Maharashtra. Northwest India, which ended with a deficit the last time, is forecast to receive surplus showers during the latter quarter of the season (July-August-September).

The positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) event blamed for the drying of the northwest had since ended and the warming had returned to east equatorial Indian Ocean. This will help orient the monsoon current to penetrate the northwest, according to model prognostications.
