Information technology (IT) has made significant contribution for showcasing and delivery of financial products in the banking sector, according to Mr S. Dheerendra, Regional Manager, Regional Business Office, State Bank of India, Mangalore.

Making a presentation on ‘Influence of IT in marketing financial products’ as part of the Business Line Club lecture series at the Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management at Nitte in Udupi district, he said that IT plays a major role in marketing financial products as it will supplement the skills of the person marketing the product.

Stating that it is essential to look into the user’s angle before marketing the product, he said the delivery of the product concerned should meet all the requirements of the customer.

In this regard, he quoted the example of SBI’s combo card offer for various educational institutions in the country.

Apart from performing usual roles of debit card and ATM card, the combo card is also used as an identity card in some of the educational institutions. It also acts in registering attendance and in providing access to some of the facilities in educational institutions. In addition to this, the student can pay his/her fees through this card only. The customer can continue to use the card even after completing his education, he said.

“You need to boost the ego of the customer while marketing a product,” he said, adding that it should be a win-win situation for both the customer and for those who markets it.

An interactive session with students followed the lecture.

Mr G.R. Venkatesh, Deputy Regional General Manager of The Hindu, Mangalore, explained about the activities of Business Line Club on the occasion.

Mr K.B. Monnappa, Assistant Regional Manager, The Hindu, Mangalore, introduced the guest to the gathering.

Dr M.S. Moodithaya, Director of Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management, was present on the occasion.
