The Hindu Business Line : Defence workers resent pay panel proposals

Hyderabad, March 26 The All-India Defence Employees Federation (AIDEF) has called upon all the defence employees to protest the adverse recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission (CPC). “We demand the Government to immediately start negotiations with the trade union of the Central Government Employees for implementing the recommendations of the Commission on a mutually agreed basis by incorporating various modifications suggested by the staff,” the AIDEF said in a letter to the Defence Minister.

According to the letter, the Central Government Employees Federation demanded a minimum pay of Rs 10,000 based on the principle of need-based minimum wage. “However, the Commission has rejected the demand and recommended Rs 5,740 as the minimum pay. Also the Commission has created a division amongst the Group D employees in the name of qualification,” it added.

Increments

The AIDEF also said that while the employees’ organisations demanded five per cent of the basic pay as annual increments, the pay panel has recommended only 2.5 per cent of the basic pay as annual increments. “It is also shocking to note the Commission has violated the terms of reference and recommended for corporatisation of the 41 ordnance factories in line with BSNL. This is a clear violation of the agreement reached between the Defence Minister and the AIDEF,” the letter said.
