Vigneshwar teas post double record in Coonoor sale

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor, March 30

Vigneshwar Estate Tea Factory created a double-record at Sale No: 13 of the auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) when two different leaf grades of its speciality teas – BOPS and BPSM – each fetched Rs 92 a kg. Both the invoices were auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing (SI) P Ltd, and bought by Sunil Tea Co. This was the highest price fetched by any CTC grade – leaf or dust – this week. It was also the highest price fetched by the factory for its leaf grades so far this year at Coonoor auctions.

Bought-leaf

Among other CTC teas from bought-leaf factories, Homedale Estate got Rs 88, Darmona Estate and Hittakkal Estate Rs 87, Green View Estate Rs 86, Shanthi Supreme Rs 84, Deepika Supreme Rs 83 and Selva Ganapathy Rs 80.

Among the orthodox teas from corporate sector, Chamraj and Colacombie got Rs 115 a kg, Prammas Rs 111, Havukal and Kairbetta Rs 110, Kodanaad and Curzon Rs 105, Glendale and Coonoor Tea Estate Rs 103, Pascoe’s Woodlands and Kil Kotagiri Rs 102 and Nonsuch Rs 100.

Export purchases were more pronounced.

Pakistan bought select lines of well-made smaller grades and fannings paying up to Rs 55 a kg. CIS and Poland chose bolder grades for up to Rs 47. Egypt bought select grades for up to Rs 55. There were some purchases for the US and West Asian markets at high prices.

“While orthodox broken leaf sold dearer by Rs 2 a kg, brighter liquoring CTC dust lost to the same extent. Some orthodox dusts were withdrawn for want of bids. Primary orthodox whole leaf and high priced CTC leaf eased Rs 3”, an auctioneer told Business Line.
