NGOs organise ‘Week of Rice Action’

Thiruvananthapuram, March 31 Non-governmental organisations across Asia are organising a ‘Week of Rice Action’ from April 2 to 8 as part of the global ‘people’s no genetic engineering day’ initiative.

In Kerala, several non-governmental organisations led by the city-based Thanal are holding a workshop and poster exhibition on ‘genetically modified crops and its implications for agriculture and food’ in Kochi on April 8. The workshop, which will be held at the Vyapari Bhavan in Kochi will be inaugurated by the Kerala Agriculture Minister, Mr Mullakkara Ratnakaran, says a Thanal press statement. The workshop will have presentations on subjects such as ‘genetically modified crops in India’, ‘genetically modified organisms and threats to biodiversity’.
