Human Resources States - Kerala Canara Bank’s IT institute achieves high placement rate Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, April 1 Canara Bank Institute of Information Technology (CBIIT), which recently celebrated its seventh anniversary, has achieved high placement rate for its students. The institute, sponsored by the Canara Bank Centenary Rural Development Trust and started functioning in 2001, has so far trained 1,400 candidates, out of whom 95 per cent have been employed in various firms in and outside the country, according to the officials of the bank. The institute is imparting free training in job-oriented computer software and hardware packages to poor and unemployed youth. Apart from IT subjects, the institute also provides personality development and communicative English sessions to the trainees. The officials said that the eligibility criteria for the trainees included annual family income of up to Rs 24,000; age between 18 and 25; and a minimum qualification of Plus Two. For hardware course, preference is given to those with basic knowledge in electronics. The courses in software applications cover MS Office, DTP, Tally, communicative English and human resources development sessions. In hardware, the courses span assembling, servicing, networking and printer servising. Mr Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Infosys Technologies, was the chief guest at the seventh anniversary celebrations of the institute.
