Kolkata, April 2 Texas Instruments on Tuesday signed a collaborative research agreement with the School of Medical Science and Technology (SMST), Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT-KGP), to develop semiconductor technologies that are aimed at improving the quality of healthcare diagnostics and reducing its costs as well.

The agreement provides for collaboration in breakthrough medical technology research for a four-year period.

The research projects proposed to be undertaken are expected to lay the foundation of a new generation of cancer diagnostic systems and healthcare monitoring.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Biswadip Mitra, Managing Director of Texas Instruments India, said Texas Instruments Inc has set aside a corpus of $15 million to fund medical technical research at select universities across the world with a focus on quality, accessibility and affordability.
