Basmati exports: No DEPB benefits

New Delhi, April 4

The Government has withdrawn duty entitlement passbook (DEPB) benefits on basmati rice exports. This move is intended to discourage exports and improve its domestic market availability. "Export of basmati rice shall not be entitled for DEPB benefits," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in an executive order issued on Thursday. The DEPB rate on basmati rice is 1 per cent. As part of its anti-inflationary measures, the Government had on Monday raised the minimum export price of basmati rice to $1,200 per tonne. It had also banned export of non-basmati rice to conserve domestic supplies and cool the prices. - Our Bureau
