Events Marketing - IPR States - Karnataka Meet on patents regime in Bangalore Our Bureau Bangalore, April 10 A two-day symposium on India’s patent regime is being organised by the National Law School of India Review, the law journal of The National Law School, Bangalore from April 13. The subject for the symposium has been chosen as the issue of patents has significant relevance in India today to highlight ramifications of patent law as highlighted by recent case relating to the anti-cancer drug Glivec manufactured by Novartis, decided by the Madras High Court and the Bajaj – TVS dispute over the motorbike ‘Flame’. Prominent speakers at the symposium would include Mr Justice Naolekar, Judge of the Supreme Court, Mr Justice Lakshmanan (Retd.), Chairman of the Law Commission of India, Mr Justice Shailendra Kumar, Judge of the Karnataka High Court and Mr Justice Raveendra Bhat, Judge of the Delhi High Court. Also participating would be senior advocates, patent attorneys, technical experts, ideologues as well as activists to facilitate constructive discussion of the issues and to suggest the best way forward for India’s patent law. The symposium has been structured to discuss the cutting edge issues relating to the patent regime in India. Over four sessions, it looks to cover the theoretical justifications for patents, India’s role as a country which is a signatory to TRIPS, the contentious issue of pharmaceutical patents and finally an analysis of possible judicial attitudes towards patent law and legislation in India.
