IPE to recruit, train fresh graduates for retail sector

Hyderabad, April 14

The Institute of Public Enterprise has been entrusted with the task of recruiting and training fresh graduates for junior level positions by some reputed retail organisations.

The institute would screen the candidates from April 15 for an unspecified number of openings for the posts of customer care executives and floor managers in retail chains, Mr R.K. Mishra, Director of the institute, told Business Line here.

“About eight reputed retail chains such as Pantaloons and Heritage have approached us for recruiting and training suitable candidates to work for them. Though we cannot give exact numbers we are looking for, the process would be spread over batches of 30 candidates each,” Mr Mishra said.

The representatives of the companies involved would discuss the remuneration aspects with prospective candidates, he added.

The retail sector has a lot of potential to absorb the young and talented in various roles including junior managerial positions, he observed. According to industry estimates, the retail sector would need a minimum of 40,000 people over the next few years due to the increasing penetration of retail chains into semi-urban areas.

CAMPUS PLACEMENTS

On the placements this year, Mr Mishra said the institute had achieved 100 per cent placements.

“About 45 major companies had come to the campus placements programme and offered jobs to all 110 students who participated. The average domestic, cost to the company (CTC) was Rs 3.6 lakh per annum. For the seven students who secured international offers, CTC was at Rs 7 lakh,” Mr Mishra said.

The services sector offered maximum number of placements, followed by manufacturing and financial services, he added.
