Karur textile forum industry meet today

G. Gurumurthy

Coimbatore, April 15

Karur Textile Forum, the umbrella organisation for various textile industrial bodies in the home textiles town of Karur, is holding a State-level textile industry meet at Karur on Wednesday.

The Forum has sent out invitation to leading textile industry bodies representing the diverse manufacturing interests in textile value chain starting from spinning up to fabric finishing/garment industries. Major trade bodies from key textile clusters in the State, namely Madurai, Salem, Erode, Tirupur, Chennimalai and Tiruchi are expected to attend the meet.

Mr Sivakannan, President of the Forum told Business Line the meeting would discuss common problems faced by every production sector in the textile chain and the issues, including cotton short supply, power, labour and water shortages, besides the infrastructure bottlenecks which are severely impacting the textile industry growth in the State would be deliberated at the meet.

The meeting assumes significance in the light of complaints on rising raw material prices and environmental tangles from textile producers. The forum is for quite some time engaged in hearing the views of each sector within the textile chain before moving towards adopting a common stand. The collective views of the industry put forth at tomorrow’s meet would be forwarded to the Government authorities for remedial action.
