Tea 23-week high offer at Coonoor tea auctions P.S. Sundar Coonoor, April 16 A volume of 3.55 lakh kgs is being offered for the dust sale of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) here on Thursday. This is 35,000 kgs more than the offer made last week. There will be no auction on Friday due to Mahavir Jayanthi. Of the 3.55 lakh kgs, as much as 3.07 lakh kgs belong to CTC variety and orthodox variety the rest. Orthodox variety is low in the 7.76 lakh kgs of leaf as well. Only 0.25 lakh kgs are orthodox, while the CTC accounts for 7.51 lakh kgs. In all, 11.31 lakh kgs have been catalogued for this week’s auctions. Of this, 10.58 lakh kgs belong to CTC and only 0.78 lakh kgs, orthodox. The volume of 11.31 lakh kgs is the highest of the last 23 weeks. It is 87,000 kgs more than the offer of last week. Of the 11.31 lakh kgs, fresh teas account for 10.64 lakh kgs. The balance comprises teas remaining unsold from previous auctions. Rising arrivalsThe arrivals have been increasing owing to higher production in the Nilgiris triggered by unusual rains in March which helped to retain heavy precipitation and humidity levels.
