Discussion on commodities rules change

Our Bureau

Kochi, April 17 The Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry is conducting a talk on the implications of the recent amendment to Packaged Commodities Rules 1977 here at Government Guest House on April 28.

The talk is being delivered by Mr T. Singaravel, member of the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission. He also authored the book ‘Packaged Commodities Compendium of Laws and Rules’ and is well versed with the Standards of Weights and Measures (Packaged Commodities) Rules 1977.

A press release issued here said that the amendments to Packaged Commodities Rules have far reaching impact for the entire society — manufacturers, traders and consumers.

A major part of the amendment came into force on January 13, 2007 and the remaining part would come into force with effect from May 1, 2008.

This will adversely affect the manufacturers, traders and consumers for no fault of theirs. An awareness of this amendment will help the traders and manufacturers to protect their rights, the release said.
