Kolkata, April 18 BM Birla Heart Research Centre plans to expand its base in the East and North-East and is looking at setting up healthcare units at Rajarhat, Siliguri, Haldia and Jaipur.

The centre is also looking at overseas expansion in Bangladesh and West Asia.

The 300-bed super speciality clinic in Jaipur will be operational next year. “The civil construction is almost complete; now we have to set up the equipment. We are hopeful of commencing operations by next year,” Mr Suyash Borar, Chief Operating Officer, B M Birla Heart Research Centre, said.

multi-speciality clinics

The hospitals will be of the nature of multi-speciality clinics. “The areas of speciality could be eye and dental apart from heart care,” Mr Borar said. The centre will have to invest about Rs 300 crore in the next 2-3 years for the three hospitals.

According to Mr Borar, the investment will be funded through a combination of debt and internal accruals. “More than 75 per cent of the sum will be from private investors and financial institutions, while 25 per cent will be from internal accruals,” Mr Borar said.

In the North-East, the centre plans to set up hospitals in Guwahati and Mizoram.
