Foreign Trade States - Karnataka Call to exploit opportunities in neighbouring countries Our Bureau Nitte (Udupi), April 20 Exploiting opportunities in the neighbouring countries and globalising indigenous products can help India reach newer heights in the international market, according to Dr N.K. Thingalaya, Chairman of the Academic Council of the Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management, Nitte, Udipi district. Speaking at a seminar on ‘Marketing challenges in the global village’ at the institute on Saturday, he said it is time for India to regain glory in the international market. The country had a share of 26 per cent in international market during the era of East India Company. However, East India Company used India’s wealth for its benefit, he said. The present growth story of India could help it regain glory in the international market. He suggested that the country could make a beginning by exploiting the abundant potential available in the neighbouring countries to market its product. He also opined that it is now time for the country to market indigenous products in the global arena as several of them have caught the attention of the world market. Mr M.B. Padiyar, Director (Production and Projects), Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd (KIOCL), said that marketing in a global village requires a lot of study. Highlighting the role of brand image in marketing, he said KIOCL has created a brand for itself in the international market. (The company prepares iron ore pellets for the international market.) The brand name for its iron ore pellet product is the company’s biggest asset, he said. Innovativeness and proper planning will give an edge in marketing products in the international arena, he added. Dr M.S. Moodithaya, Director of the institute, said that technology can be an effective tool in marketing. Experts from manufacturing, services and media sectors participated in the seminar.
