Shirdi Ind to set up Chennai plant

Chennai, April 20

Mumbai-based Shirdi Industries Ltd plans to set up a Rs 35-crore factory to make prelaminated boards, furniture components and decorative laminates near Chennai. According to Mr R.K. Agarwal, Managing Director, Shirdi Industries, the facility coming up at Gummidipoondi to the north of Chennai will import plain particle boards and medium density fibreboards and prelaminate them for marketing. With a capacity to produce about 2.25 lakh sq m of prelaminated boards a month, it is nearly half the capacity of Shirdi's production at Uttarakhand. It will not only expand the company's production capacity but also strengthen its presence in the South. The 10-acre facility is expected to start production in October, Mr Agarwal said. - Our Bureau
