Climate & Weather North India heading for heat wave Vinson Kurian Bangkok, April 21 Large parts of India are heading for an oppressive heat wave later into this week, with temperatures threatening to touch the mid-40s in north and central India. The intervention by an intervening western disturbance would be limited to the extreme north and northwest, according to an India Met Department (IMD) update. The mercury might drop a little temporarily. According to the IMD, the drop will range between 2-4{ring}C over most parts of central and plains of northwest India. The current meteorological analysis suggests that gradual rise in maximum temperatures is likely to lead to development of heat wave conditions over isolated pockets of Rajasthan, plains of northwest India and central India during the next three-four days. On Monday, the highest maximum temperature in the country of 43.5 {ring}C was recorded at Nagpur. It should come down to below 1000 millibars to set up a pressure gradient relative to the extreme south peninsula. But this may not happen very soon since the south is bracing for some moisture incursion later during this week, as per consensus forecasts by different models. The heat low showed feeble signs of developing over western Rajasthan with the pressure having dropped to 2004 millibars on Monday. Meanwhile on Monday, the weather causing trough was looking more organised running down from Vidarbha to south Tamil Nadu through Marathwada. A cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh had shifted over to Bangladesh and neighbourhood. The other cyclonic circulation over coastal Karnataka and adjoining Lakshadweep area had become marked. Meanwhile, Typhoon Negouri made a brush with Hainan before slamming the Chinese coast west of Hong Kong on Friday last. More Stories on : Climate & Weather
