Tiruchi, April 22 As future stakeholders of ‘progressive India’, managing personal resources is vital for current generation of students, Mr V. Sathiyanarayanan, Executive Director, Stock Focus Financial Services Pvt. Ltd, Tiruchi, has said.

Given the fluctuations in inflation rate, it is imperative for students to focus on post-retirement financial security early on in career, as statistics indicates that 80 per cent of people end up broke at the time of retirement from services, due to poor financial planning, Mr Sathiyanarayanan said at the inauguration of the BL Club at the Department of Commerce and Financial Studies, Bharathidasan University.

Money saving must be habitual, and returns must be determined beforehand while planning investments. Money management helps create wealth, enlarge wealth systematically and ensure well-planned post-retirement life. Leading a lavish life is not wealth creation, he said, delivering a special lecture on ‘Money Management’.

Mr Sathiyanarayanan emphasised on the need for investors to understand inherent risk elements in investment products through taking genuine advice from investment advisers. Insurance is protection and not investment, he clarified.

Inaugurating the BL Club, Mr S. Iyyampillai, Prof of Economics, Bharathidasan University and Coordinator, Centre for Youth Development and Studies, dwelt on the need for students to keep themselves updated through regular reading of newspapers. Mr M. Selvam, Reader and Head, Department of Commerce and Financial Studies, and Mr R. Srinivasan, Regional General Manager, The Hindu, Tiruchi, offered felicitations.
