Roy Chowdhury Our Bureau Kolkata, April 24 There is good news on the investment front for West Bengal. IT majors Infosys and Wipro will together invest Rs 1,000 crore in setting up various facilities in Kolkata. Infosys will set up a “multi-technology, multi-service” development centre near the Rajarhat-Vedic area at an investment of Rs 500 crore in the first phase. The development centre will be spread over 90 acres of land and engage 5,000 people. It will be a Special Economic Zone, Mr Kris Gopalakrishnan, CEO and Managing Director of Infosys Ltd, told newspersons at Writers’ Buildings here on Thursday after he, along with senior company officials, met the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee, and others here. Mr Gopalakrishnan said the development centre here would be engaged in activities “from consultancy to BPO”. He said work on the project would begin as soon as the State Government hands over the land to the company. Operations would begin within one year thereafter.
