Dabur India Q4 profits up 5.7% at Rs 83 cr

New Delhi, April 30 Dabur India on Wednesday reported a 5.7 per cent growth in consolidated net profits at Rs 82.5 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2008. Net sales for the period went up more than 14 per cent as compared to the corresponding period the previous year and stood at Rs 606.5 crore.

Revenues from the consumer care business stood at Rs 474 crore, up 12 per cent compared to the corresponding period the previous year. The Consumer Health business grew more than 21 per cent with revenues for the quarter at Rs 44.42 crore.

Year on year

The company said strong growth in key categories coupled with stringent cost-saving initiatives helped Dabur mitigate the impact of escalating costs and record. The company recorded 18.5 per cent growth in net profits for the financial year ending March31, 2008. Net profits stood at Rs 332.8 crore. Sales for the year stood at Rs 2,361.07 crore, up 15.6 per cent over the previous 12 months.

During the year, Dabur India has revamped and relaunched 60 per cent of the Consumer Care Division product portfolio, laying the foundation for stronger growth for the future,” said Mr Sunil Duggal, Chief Executive Officer, Dabur, in a statement.

International sales grew 25.5 per cent during the period with strong performances from Egypt, GCC and African markets. “We have built strong capabilities to tap emerging opportunities. Sales in the GCC region have increased by 32.8 per cent led by new product launches, while Dabur Egypt grew by a robust 49 per cent,” said Mr P.D. Narang, Group Director, Dabur India.

Hair care

In the hair care category, hair oils reported a 13 per cent growth, led by Dabur Amla (18 per cent) during the year. Shampoos grew at an even stronger rate of 25 per cent. The company during the year entered the conditioner market under the Vatika brand. Sales growth of its toothpastes, comprising of Babool, Dabur Red and Meswak brands, bettered that of the industry, at 27 per cent.
