Letters Singapore’s strengths The article “A city-state that continues to amaze” (Business Line, April 29) was a very interesting article filled with facts and conveying the feel of Singapore’s culture well. Singapore is always thought of as full of lights and colours and a dream destination for a holiday. That is, of course, true, but the article gave an insight about the minute flaws in the country’s growth. It is difficult to imagine the reverse problem of decreasing population in the island-state. In India the many oft-heard complaints have much to do with over-population, with many often forgetting the fact that the excess population can become our major strength. Singapore Govt is trying hard to increase the population and, on the contrary, we are trying hard to reduce the population. Strange but true! It was heartening to know about the mixed culture and the fact that discrimination is almost non-existent. Immigration was another important issue highlighted in the article.
