Rajasekhara Reddy visits Guntur chilli yard, promises help

Guntur, May 4 The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, visited the Guntur chilli yard gutted on Sunday and assured the farmers and others who suffered heavy damage that their loss would be fully compensated.

At a press meet after his visit to the yard, the Chief Minister announced the formation of a committee headed by the State Marketing Commissioner, Mr A.R. Sukumar, to go into the causes of the incident and also the assess the loss. Ms Aruna Bahuguna, Additional Deputy General (Fire Services); Mr B. Venkatesam, Guntur District Collector; Mr Mahesh Chandra Ladda, Superintendent of Police and the Joint Director (Marketing), Mr Nissar Ahmed, will be the other members of the panel.

The Chief Minister said that the farmers would be compensated either by insurance companies, or by the State, or the market committee.

Issues under consideration

He also said that the committee would go into the issue of the relocation of the yard.

The committee would hold a public hearing in the market yard to go into the causes of the incident. It would submit its report by May 7 and later a Group of Ministers would examine the report and the future course of action would be announced in Hyderabad on May 8.
