ESC welcomes tax break decision

Kolkata, May 7

The Electronic and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) has welcomed the decision of the government to continue with the tax break for IT firms working under the STPI scheme for another year. This, ESC said, would provide a relief to software exporting firms, especially the SME sector. Speaking to newspersons here on Wednesday, Mr S. Radhakrishnan, Eastern Region Chairman, said the software industry was faced with difficult times due to appreciating rupee and higher wage bills and property prices. He urged the government to come out with a policy of extending the tax sops for a longer duration so that the industry has adequate time to plan its investments for the long term. - Our Bureau
