Hind Zinc 32 model villages get ORG certification

Mumbai, May 12 Hindustan Zinc has received ORG (Operation Research Group) certification for facilities provided in 32 model villages in four districts of Rajasthan.

The villages were developed by the company as Model Village Project is in line with Millennium Development Goals.

The study by ORG noticed 72 per cent growth in basic services such as safe drinking water, improved sanitary conditions, nutritious of children through mid-day meal, enrolment of pre-nursery school children in child welfare centres and self-employment activities of rural youth and women.

There has been 40 per cent participation of women in village development committees and 80 per cent enabled to contribute to family income and developed confidence to voice their concerns in village development committees, ORG noted.

ORG also noted that due to Hindustan Zinc efforts there has been a remarkable improvement in income levels in 72 per cent families undergoing vocational training in various trades. The income level was Rs 8,000 per month.

ORG recommended to partially phase out from 70 per cent model villages and 30 per cent model villages are needed to focus on capacity building of the members of village institutions for one more year.
