KCCI plea to Govt

Mangalore, June 6

The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the Karnataka Government to reduce sales tax on petroleum products and to cancel entry tax on them. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa, the copies of which were released to the press here on Friday, the KCCI President, Mr K. Narasimha Prabhu, said that the recent hike in petrol, diesel and LPG prices has imposed additional burden on consumers. He said that entry tax and sales tax are high in K arnataka compared with the neighbouring States. This is affecting the dealers of these commodities in the State. The tax fixed by the State should be less than that of the neighbouring States. He suggested that Karnataka cancel the entry tax and reduce sales tax on petroleum products. Sales tax on petrol and diesel should not exceed 15 per cent in the State, he said, urging the State Government to take an early decision in this regard.
