Good demand at Kochi tea sale

A good general demand has resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi Tea auction.

Of the total quantity of 10,43,000 kg on offer in the dust category, CTC’s generally fully firm to dearer by Rs 35 and at times more. High-priced bolder CTC is barely steady. High grown orthodox grades was dearer by Rs 5, while medium orthodox dearer by Rs 2-4. Major blenders and active exporters operated on bolder CTCs. Domestic market lent useful support.

The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 66-75, medium CTC realised Rs 55-63 and below medium were quoted at Rs 55-58. High grown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 84-95, while medium BOPD realised Rs 55-59. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 48-52.

The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 3 lakh kg. High grown orthodox brokens and whole leaf grades were steady to dearer by Rs 2-3. Fannings were steady following quality. Medium orthodox brokens were steady around last levels, while medium whole leaf grades were dearer.

CTC smaller brokens and fannings steady to dearer by Re 1 to Rs 4. High-priced bolder brokens were easier at Rs 2-3. Plainer bold CTC grades faced less demand. Orthodox continued to witness good demand from exporters. Smaller CTCs also witnessed good demand from exporters.

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 82-102, medium orthodox realised Rs 72-90 and plain orthodox realised Rs 65-77. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 65-74 and medium CTC leaf realised Rs 54-63.

In the dust category, Kodanad CL BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 95 followed by Pasuparai SFD by Rs 89. In the leaf category, Chamraj FOP realised the best prices of Rs 128 followed by Glendale FOP (sup) by Rs 125.
