Kerala’s tax revenue at Rs 13,699 cr

As per the provisional estimates of the Accountant General, Kerala collected tax revenue of Rs 13,699.15 crore under various heads in 2007-08.

In reply to questions in the State Assembly on Wednesday, the Finance Minister, Dr Thomas Isaac, said that the Government received Rs 4,021.6 crore as its share of Central taxes in 2007-08. This apart, it obtained another Rs. 2,001.66 crore from the Centre as grants for non-plan projects, state projects, central projects and centrally-sponsored projects.

The State recorded non-tax revenue of Rs 1,174.10 crore and loan recovery of Rs 42.11 crore during the year, the Minister said.

The State also received Rs 416.43 crore as loans and advances from the Centre during the year, according to the provisional estimates.

The Minister informed the House that the Government collected Rs 94.85 crore as tax on lotteries in 2007-08. There were no arrears in this respect as the promoters sold lottery tickets in the State after paying advance tax as per the Kerala Paper Lotteries Act, 2005.

The tax revenue from the sale of lotteries of other States amounted to Rs 78.33 crore during the year, he said.
