The article “Is India’s culture democratic?” (Business Line, June 27) made interesting reading. One is reminded of Rajaji’s words: “Consideration for the feelings of others is culture”. If we go by this definition, majority of the Indians are culturally undemocratic.

In a big democracy such as India, the powers that be must identify themselves with the people’s problems and take measures to solve them. Unfortunately, Governors in the country do not have the powers to solve people’s needs. At the most, they can experience their problems. The West Bengal Governor has done just that.
