Reliance Infra gets Rs 12,000-cr contract from group’s power company

Rahul Wadke

Mumbai, June 28 Reliance Infrastructure Ltd has been awarded the Rs 12,000-crore engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the Sasan ultra-mega power project by its group company Reliance Power Ltd. Reliance Power Ltd is developing the 4,000-MW project through its subsidiary Sasan Power Ltd.

Sources in the company said the EPC contract would be accounted on the Reliance Infrastructure’s balance sheet. About 42 months would be required to complete the contract. The ‘notice to proceed’ would be issued to the company in a week’s time.

Reliance Infrastructure is currently developing projects of 1,200 MW. It has two major EPC contracts — one from the Haryana Government and another from Damodar Valley Corporation. This is the first internal contract. It will soon float a sub-contract for critical equipment such as boiler, turbine and generators, sources said.

Sources said that being a group company Reliance Infrastructure will deliver the contract faster and Reliance Power will have better control over the project timeline.

Reliance Infrastructure has tied up with power plant engineering consultant Black & Veatch, USA (B&V) for engineering consultancy services for Sasan and Krishnapatnam ultra mega power projects.

US co to prepare manuals

The American company will help prepare project manuals, review detailed engineering of boiler, turbine and generator, basic and detailed engineering of critical balance of plant packages, equipment layouts, architectural details including DCS engineering and development of plant information management system.

It will also provide expertise in the field of project control and management system, construction and material management, erection, testing and commissioning, preparation of operation and maintenance plans and other associated engineering services.

Technology Support Service Agreement between Reliance Infrastructure and B&V is for developing a Centre of Engineering Excellence at Dadri, Uttar Pradesh. The centre proposes seamless transfer and development of technology for end-to-end design and engineering of power plants and other infrastructure projects.
