Indian Bank waives Rs 551 cr

Madurai, June 30 Indian Bank has waived a sum of Rs 551.22 crore, benefiting 2,81,090 farmers under the Central Government’s Agriculture Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme.

Addressing a press meet after handing over the loan waiver certificates to the beneficiaries of the Okkur branch in Sivaganga district, the Chairman and Managing Director, Mr M.S. Sundara Rajan, said the notification of the beneficiaries had been made in all the 1,031 branches well in advance and if there were any omissions, a grievance redressal scheme was in.

Of the total beneficiaries, 2,38,646 were from the category of the small and marginal farmers, accounting for a sum of Rs 461.49 crore.

For the 660 branches in Tamil Nadu, the waiver has been to the tune of Rs 348.52 crore benefiting 1,76,791 farmers.

He agreed to carry forward a suggestion to honour those farmers who have paid the farm loans promptly..
