Hyderabad, June 30 In order to address the need for imparting education to plumbers in India, the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA), along with the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), plans to start education programmes across the country.

“The goal of the IPA-IAPMO Plumbing Education to Employment Programme is to prepare multiple levels of professional groups in the country to read, understand, interpret, engage and apply the provisions of the Uniform Plumbing Code-India,” Mr R.K. Somany, Chairman of the Hyderabad Chapter of Indian Plumbing Association, told presspersons here on Monday.

He said the programme seeks to partner colleges, universities and vocational institutions for providing the required levels of skill and expertise as mentioned in the code which was released earlier this year.

The association has already started the Indian Institute of Plumbing in Pune which has trained 30 people so far. Mr Somany said they intend to replicate this model in other parts of the country.

“Currently work is in progress to create a curriculum for the programme which is expected to be ready by December and by May next year we hope to start a few more schools to educate people on plumbing activities,” he said.
