Chamber seeks package for processed food industry

Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called upon the State Government to announce a special package of assistance, incentives, support and know-how for setting up processed food industries as well as export promotion.

As the policies of the Central Government relating to processed food items are to be implemented by the State Government, the major responsibility of promoting these products ultimately rests with the State Government, Mr R.Mohandas, President of the Chamber said.

He was speaking at a interactive session for the growth of food processing industries in the State organised by Kinfra in the presence of Mr Subodh Kant Sahai, Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, here.

The chamber president said that there are numerous food products like cashew kernels, marine products, agricultural products and fruit products like jackfruit, pineapple, plantain etc can be converted into processed food through updated technology and export them in large quantities.

These products can be competitive in the world market only with the proper assistance from the State Government. In order to equip processed food sector of the State highly competitive, the Chamber President said that the State Government could seek assistance from the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore for the required technology upgradation.
