Airlines Marketing - New Products & Services Dragonair launches direct Bangalore-HK service
Exuding confidence: Mr Algernon Yau (left), General Manager, Ground Services and International Affairs, Dragonair, and Mr Tom Wright, GM — India, Middle East, Africa and Pakistan, Cathay Pacific, addressing a press conference in Bangalore on Wednesday. Our Bureau Banglaore, July 2 Dragonair exuded confidence in weathering the ‘oil shock’ and inflation affecting the airlines industry to expect a robust growth from the launch of a direct service from Bangalore to Honk Kong today. A wholly owned subsidiary of Cathay Pacific, Dragonair, made its debut in India via Bangalore with a daily service to the progressive destination. High fuel pricesLaunching the service from India amidst the spectre of the airlines industry facing the high fuel prices and inflation affecting the frequency of travel indicated Dragonair’s belief that the market was underserved with a non-stop flight between India and Hong Kong, said Mr Tom Wright, General Manager, India, Middle East, Africa and Pakistan, Cathay Pacific. Mr Wright said though Cathay Pacific and Dragonair would be operating 35 flights a week from India, the India-Hong Kong sector was still underserved. Cathay Pacific operates 28 flights weekly from Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. Mr Wright also dispelled any misgivings that Dragonair was a low-cost airline and said it was a full service carrier. The lowest round trip by Economy Class from India to Hong Kong and back will be Rs 22,000. The Business Class travellers would have to pay Rs 62,000. Mr Wright said though the fuel price was a “big negative”, the airline was not planning to revise its fare now. More Stories on : Airlines | New Products & Services
