Cabinet approves second helicopter for Lakshadweep

New Delhi, July 3 The state-owned Pawan Hans Helicopter Ltd (PHHL) is to provide a second helicopter to Lakshadweep Administration which will be used to not only operate inter-island services but also maintain law and order.

Briefing newspersons after a meeting of the Union Cabinet, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mr P.R. Dasmunsi, said that the Government also allowed the meeting of the cost of hiring or chartering of the helicopter by providing an annual subsidy of Rs 13.10 crore to the Lakshadweep Administration.

The second helicopter, a Dauphin N3, will be stationed at Kavaratti. The helicopter will initially be provided for five years.
