Steady to easy trend at Kochi tea auction

There was good demand from exporters for orthodox leaf tea and also for smaller CTC leaf varieties at the Kochi Tea Auction. Export demand was more muted at the dust tea auction. Blenders were fairly active at the dust auction while interstate buyers were less active at the leaf tea auction.

There was 8,59,000 kg of dust tea on offer where CTC prices eased by Rs 2-3. Medium CTC prices remained barely steady. Orthodox high grown dust remained steady to dearer, while medium orthodox prices eased by Re 1 to Rs 2. Best CTC dust fetched Rs 67-78, medium CTC quoted Rs 60-65 and below medium was at Rs 55-60. High grown BOPD quoted Rs 90-100, medium BOPD fetched Rs 52-56 and secondaries ranged at Rs 50-52.

Leaf Sale

There was 3,22,000 kg of leaf tea on offer and prices of orthodox high grown broken and whole leaf grades were dearer by Rs 2-3. High grown fannings was steady following quality while medium orthodox broken remained steady.

Medium whole leaf grades were dearer, while medium fannings witnessed less demand. Best Nilgiri varieties commanded Rs 85-105, medium orthodox was at Rs 70-92 and plain orthodox quoted Rs 65-72. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 61-70 and medium CTC leaf was at Rs 51-60.

Top Prices

In the dust category Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price at Rs 100, followed by Pasuparai SFD at Rs 91, Parkside BOPD at Rs 90 and Pasuparai FD at Rs 85.

In the leaf category Chamraj FOP, Chamraj OP, Havukal FOP, Glendale FP all fetched the top price at Rs 126.
