Maize continues to nosedive

Mumbai, July 4 Maize futures on NCDEX continued its downtrend with prices touching the lower circuit of four per cent at Rs 894 a quintal. The Government on Thursday banned maize exports.

Sugar futures lost 0.14 per cent at Rs 1,463 a quintal on ample supplies in the spot markets. Cocud and guarseed fell marginally by 0.17 per cent and 0.11 per cent to Rs 479 for20 kg and Rs 1,869 a quintal.

Castor gains

Castor gained 0.82 per cent to Rs 590 per 20 kg on lower arrivals and good export demand. Rapeseed/mustard and chilli futures ended higher by 0.55 per cent and 0.54 per cent at Rs 659 for 20 kg and Rs 5,213 a quintal.

In MCX, mentha oil gained four per cent to Rs 567 a kg on reports of crop damage in Uttar Pradesh amidst strong demand. Cardamom was up 1.1 per cent at Rs 691 a kg following reports of lull in rainfall activity in Kerala.

MCX recorded a turnover of Rs 3,949 crore up to 5 pm, while it was Rs 1,788 crore in NCDEX.
