Pune, July 4

Premiering on July 14, Discovery Channel is all set to showcase the ‘behind the scenes’ of the Beijing Olympics. This is a five-part series which would draw the portrait of a city undergoing makeover and would highlight the high-tech athletic preparation, construction of innovative and friendly infrastructure and the use of science of technology.

The show would be telecast at 9 p.m. The first three parts of the series have been completed and the remaining two are under production, Mr Rajiv Bakshi, Director, Marketing, Discovery Network, told presspersons.

Giving a glimpse on the Beijing Olympics preparation, he said that some of the notable features include a forest park, with over half-a-million trees, twice the size of New York’s Central park would be the green lung for the Beijing capital and the venue for tennis, archery and hockey during the games.

The fourth largest steel works in China from the Centre of Beijing Steel Capital has been relocated out of the city. The threat of rainstorm shower over the Beijing Olympics and more than 7,000 anti-aircraft guns encircling Beijing would play a part in forcing the clouds to burst before they reach the Olympic venue.

Over 300 million Chinese are learning English and other languages such as Spanish and French. To revamp the entire transport system, it is building another ring road above ground, 13 subway lines, a 300-km of new highway and high speed airport link to service a brand new airport terminal.

Mr Bakshi added that the series would also be showcasing a separate section on China’s sport personalities who are preparing for the games that it is hosting.
