H1 earnings up Rs 58 cr at Coonoor tea auctions

Coonoor, July 10 Stakeholders of Coonoor Tea Trade Association have earned Rs 58.39 crore more in the first half of calendar 2008 over 2007. An analysis of the market reports of the 26 auctions held till June end reveals that this happened because of more volumes having been sold at higher prices.

Between January and June, prices rose to average Rs 56.08 a kg from Rs 47.77. Still, a higher volume of 23.72 million kg was sold against 15.60 million kg last year.

Consequently, the overall earnings rose to Rs 132.91 crore from Rs 74.52 crore. This marked an increase of Rs 58.39 crore or 78 per cent.

Share of CTC

CTC teas, which form the bulk of the sales, accounted for a sizable share in this increase. On an average, they fetched Rs 55.79 a kg against Rs 46.64 last year.
