WNS buys Aviva’s BPO biz

Our Bureau

Mumbai, July 11 WNS (Holdings) Ltd said it has acquired UK insurance major Aviva’s BPO business Aviva Global Services (AGS) for around $ 228 million (Rs 980 crore).

WNS (Holdings) is the New York Stock Exchange-listed holding company of Mumbai-headquartered WNS Global Services, which has been ranked the second largest BPO in the country by the National Association of Software and Services companies.

The Master Services Agreement under the deal includes an eight year contract for WNS to provide BPO services to Aviva’s UK and Canadian operations; other providers will be capped on numbers and duration as per existing contracts. As part of the MSA, WNS also benefits from a recently signed AGS contract for approximately 580 employees with Aviva’s Irish subsidiary, Hibernian. Together, these contracts could generate revenue of $ 1 billion, said a WNS statement.

WNS will take over AGS’ operations comprising over 5,800 seats. These include captive operations in Bangalore and Colombo; AGS’s Pune and Chennai operations, which are currently run by other providers, would be transferred to WNS within 30 days. AGS has issued transfer notices to these third party providers. The WNS-managed facility in Pune will remain with WNS (which has already been providing services to Aviva since 2004 from Pune and Colombo).

“With this acquisition, WNS solidifies its position as a premier offshore BPO provider,” said Mr Neeraj Bhargava, CEO, WNS Global Services.
