Outlook Marketing - Strategy Hyundai plans LPG models for Santro, Accent T. Murrali Chennai, July 12 Hyundai Motor India Ltd plans to launch the LPG version of the Santro and Accent soon. The Managing Director, Mr H.S. Lheem, told Business Line that the company would introduce the LPG version for both models in October. Last year the company launched the CNG version for Santro, and recently for Accent. It is currently sourcing CNG and LPG kits from two companies in Korea, CEV and Motonic. The entire taxi segment in Korea is powered by LPG, supplied by the two vendors, he said. “Since they use highly developed technology in LPG and CNG kits, we have invited them to set up plants in India,” he said. While Motonic is setting up a manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, near Hyundai’s facility, CEV is working on setting up an assembly plant in Delhi, he said. At present, the company has 108 suppliers, including 43 from Korea located within a two-hour drive from the plant, he said. The company will launch new-generation engines called Kappa next week, primarily for i10. These would be manufactured at the new assembly plant, which was part of the company’s second phase of expansion. Hyundai will also bring in the i20 this year. About i30, he said Hyundai Motor India planned to introduce it as a replacement for Elantra. Feasibility studies are on, he said, adding “i30 is a hatchback and in India the response for this model is not encouraging. They like notchback or sedan, especially for the bigger cars.” Santa Fe, an SUV bigger than Tucson, will be launched early next year, he said. It will initially be imported as completely-built units.
