Bank of India identifies TN beneficiaries for debt waiver

Coimbatore, July 14 The Bank of India has identified 23,261 small and marginal farmers and 5,548 other farmers in Tamil Nadu for extending relief under the agricultural debt waiver and relief scheme 2008. The relief and waiver totalled Rs 72.14 crore.

Over 60 branches across 19 districts have been covered in the Coimbatore zone. The total number of beneficiaries in this zone is said to have crossed 19,200 and the amount exceeded the Rs 50 crore-mark.

The bank has in a release said that it has started to issue waiver and relief certificates to the beneficiaries identified under the scheme as also fresh loans for agricultural purposes to the eligible farmers in line with their requirement.

The bank’s General Manager (southern zones), Mr Nagesh Pydah, and the Zonal Manager of Coimbatore zone, Mr Munir Alam, participated in a function organised at Chinnakattalai in Madurai District and Periyakottai in Sivaganga District and distributed the relief/waiver certificates to 1,391 farmers last week.
